Student Theater Celebration

HOLLYWOOD & BROADWAY STAR TIMOTHY HUGHES TO HEADLINE LOCAL STUDENT THEATER CELEBRATION

This project is supported in part by a grant from the Wisconsin Arts Board with funds from the State of Wisconsin and the National Endowment for the Arts.

Sheboygan area young performers showcase is coming to the Weill Center for the Performing Arts and John Michael Kohler Arts Center.

The first annual Student Theater Celebration is coming to the Stefanie H. Weill Center on Saturday, April 13. This day long event celebrates the accomplishments of young talents throughout the community, and will feature live showcases from students of all ages, performing on the Weill Center stage.

The full day of activities will include a welcome and keynote address from Hollywood and Broadway star, Timothy Hughes (The Greatest Showman, and Broadway’s Hadestown and Frozen). Mr. Hughes will also lead an advanced dance workshop at the event.

The day will also include three acting workshops conducted at the John Michael Kohler Arts Center, by Wisconsin’s largest youth theater, First Stage - Milwaukee, for ages ranging from 2nd to 5th grade. The event will culminate with live performances by elementary, middle school, and high school students from schools throughout the Sheboygan County area.

A collaboration between Dare to Dream Theatre, First Stage, and Open Jar Institute: Actor Training (New York), the event is the brainchild of Dare to Dream Theatre Founder and Artistic Director, Rachel Thuermer, who spearheaded the initiative and brought the partnering organizations and individuals to the program. She explained, “We created this event to promote and support area school drama programs, celebrate the accomplishments of young performers in our community, and encourage young people to explore the arts.”

Thuermer goes on to say, “We see this as a wonderful opportunity to expose local youth to professional teaching artists and performers from our community, around the state, and across the country. To show young people who are interested in the arts that there are many others just like them who share their passion, and expressing themselves through the performing arts.”

The Student Theater Celebration is supported in part by grants from the Wisconsin Arts Board, and the Kohler Foundation.
